Create your own Father’s Day keychain craft
Typically, the recommended temperature is around 325°F (163°C) but it’s important to refer to the instructions provided with your specific brand of shrink film. Begin by preheating your oven to the temperature specified on your shrink film packaging. With the materials at hand, it’s time to start making your shrinky dink keychains!
The paint markers will create a chipped, textured pattern on the front as it shrinks, while the back will stay smooth and bright. Using a heat gun, warm the plastic while stabilizing it with a chopstick or wooden dowel. The colors become bold and saturated once the plastic shrinks. Carefully remove the sheet and press the piece flat with a spatula or shrinky dink paper wooden tool while it is still warm.
Make sure to follow the instructions carefully and take precautions to prevent any accidents or injuries. Use a hole punch to create a hole in the top of the cup, where you will later attach a keychain or string. Start by decorating the outside of the paper cup with colored pencils. Place the cut-out design on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

If it does not uncurl on its own, carefully use the bottom of a glass to manually flatten it down. Place it on parchment or foil and watch the magic happen as it curls, then flattens. They will curl up on themselves and then flatten out. Keep peeking, and you can watch it curl up and flatten back out.
How to Use Shrink Plastic Sheets
Clear smooth sheets or the recycled #6 plastic will need to be sanded lightly in order for the color stick onto the plastic. The colors darken as the plastic shrinks. To color the recycled plastic, it is best to use sharpie permanent markers. Pull it immediately from the oven and quickly while it is still very hot wrap it around a Chap-stick tube. For my size, I started with a strip 5″ long by about 1″ to 1 1/2″ wide. On a larger shaped tag (starting size 4″ long by 2 3/4″ wide) we placed a clip so it could be a zipper pull.
